Special TATRA trucks – Part 7: Unique for Germany

10 September, 2015

In early September TATRA TRUCKS a.s. shipped another unique design of the vehicle produced according to very specific requirements of German customers. This is a modified version of TATRA FORCE - 790R74 type 12x6.2 - designed for the transportation of up to 18-meter long pipes within the German manufacturing plant.

The basic customer’s requirements were a low vehicle height, good maneuverability, capacity at least 45 tons and a maximum speed of 25 km/h.

The vehicle is powered by a standard air-cooled TATRA T3C-928.90 Euro3 engine with the power output of 300 kW/2,100 Nm, in combination with the six-speed Allison automatic transmission and single-speed TATRA auxiliary transmission. The chassis with axles without hub reduction gears features the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th axles steered - two rear ones traditionally via an electro-hydraulic VSE system. The 1st, 3rd and 4th axles are driven. All steerable axles are suspended with air bellows and given the reduced vehicle speed their carrying capacity is 10 tons. The middle axle is suspended with a combination of air bellows and leaf springs, and their capacity is 2x13 tons. The first and last axles are fitted with torsion stabilizers. The steerable axles are fitted with 445/65 R22.5 tires, the middle tandem features 13 R22.5 dual tires.

With regard to the vehicle purpose, the TATRA FORCE cab has been used in a short version, mounted in the lowered position. The cab is non-tilting because the engine is mounted behind it, in the standard position for the TATRA FORCE range vehicles. The cab is a two-seater with independent heating and the A/C. TATRA FORCE in this custom design has a wheelbase 2,150 + 2,600 + 1,450 + 1,500 +1,650 mm and the total length with the superstructure 13,700 mm, width 2,550 mm and height 2,035 mm. The contour turning diameter is 25 m, curb-to-curb 22.5 meters. The chassis weight is 15,720 kg; the total technically permissible weight is 66 tons.

In the upcoming days a TATRA dealer in Germany will install special brackets on the vehicle frame to transport pipes and will forward it to the final customer.
