Tatra trucks at the finish line of the 2012 Dakar Rally

There were many trucks competing in this year´s edition of the popular Dakar Rally; three of four competing special TATRA trucks reached the finish line in Lima, Peru.

In the end, it was Martin Kolomý (René Kilián and David Kylián) of the Czech Dakar Team driving a green 4x4 TATRA 3K DAKAR special truck who placed seventh, which meant the best result for the TATRA brand. The following place belongs to André de Azevedo (Maykel Vilarta and Jaromír Martinec) whose racing “machine” TATRA 815 DAKAR 2T0R45 is prepared by Tomáš Tomeček’s Letka Racing Team. A substantial deal of work on the design of both trucks was done by TATRA´s R&D Department headed by Radomír Smolka, TATRA´s Design Engineering Director. “Rookie” Tomáš Vrátný of the Bonver Team driving a special TATRA 815 2Z0R45 Dakar truck placed in the final ranking of the truck category eighteenth; as regards the technical aspects, this truck was prepared by Aleš Loprais’s InstaForex Team.
However, originally the most promising iron in the fire in South America burnt out during the ninth stage. In the neutral zone between two speed trials, Aleš Loprais driving a special TATRA “Jamal” Z0R45 truck (competing with No. 501) had a serious accident.
Three of the four competing special TATRA trucks reached the finish line of the 2012 Dakar Rally. This shows that not only the chassis but also the entire TATRA design are very advanced and durable. Simply, TATRA trucks can manage the most difficult terrain in the world. Big congratulations to all TATRA truck crews reaching the finish line.
