Another special use of the vehicle TATRA PHOENIX

30 May, 2013

Preparing a new TATRA chassis with a special superstructure designed for transplanting trees for its German customer, POLYOS, spol. s r.o., proves by its another project a flexible use of the unique TATRA chassis.

The chassis comes from the new model series TATRA PHOENIX, however, it is different in many technical areas from the standard vehicles produced in lot versions. „It is the first four-axle frameless chassis TATRA PHOENIX," Milan Hrubý sen., the Chief Designer of POLYOS, spol. s r.o., specifies. „The main frame of the chassis is ended behind the auxiliary gearbox where it is connected to the frame of the superstructure. Rear axles are wide ones with a suspension by leaf springs."

The special superstructure placed on the chassis of the TATRA PHOENIX vehicle is dismantled and modified from the original chassis of the TATRA TERRN°1 vehicle. The superstructure allows the user to transplant a tree, including roots – that means that the tree can be carried in a transport position and replanted in a new place specified by the client.

A medium-sized cab, including a bed, provides the maximum comfort of the driver. The basic model of the vehicle includes a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, radio and air-condition. Based on customer´s request, the vehicle is equipped with an independent WEBASTO heating, combined auxiliary lights incorporated in the bumper and main xenon headlights. The vehicle power unit consists of a 16-speed manual transmission ZF and market-proved liquid-cooled engine PACCAR MX340 with a power of 340 kW, which meets EURO V emission standards and limits. „Besides the proven TATRA chassis, the engine was one of the principal requirements of the customer, particularly for the reason of the more and more strict  legal regulations in the countries of Western Europe where the customer uses the vehicles",  Vojtech Svoboda, CEO of  POLYOS, spol., s r.o., explains.  „Due to the fact that the trucks of class N3 shall meet EURO VI emission standards and limits from January 1, 2014, it is the right step in our opinion, because all new vehicles with EURO VI engines will be – according to available informations and assumptions -  more expensive by about 10 000 to 15 000 EUR than vehicles with EURO V engines. Therefore, it will pay for the customers who are considering to buy a TATRA truck or a vehicle of any other make if they buy the vehicle this year."

Confidence in the TATRA brand

POLYOS, spol. s r.o., which has already prepared the third TATRA vehicle for the important German customer and of which the principal business activity includes TATRA truck special modifications and conversions, has been closely cooperating with the truck maker from Kopřivnice, which was bought by new Czech owners at an auction in March, for more than 15 years. Like representatives of TATRA TRUCKS, a.s., those of POLYOS, spol. s r.o., believe that the change will contribute to a better and more successful future of the renowned truck maker from Kopřivnice.
