Great position for the second half

9 January, 2012

The fourth year of the Dakar race held in South America has entered its second half. Whereas the first one consisted of quick stages with hard surfaces in most cases, the second one is going to take the competitors to deserts and endless dune fields.

The InstaForex Team with Aleš Loprais driving the Jamal racing truck have accomplished the first half of the race best of all the special TATRA trucks. There were differences of just tens of seconds among the top ten drivers. Despite high average speed, Aleš Loprais managed to reach slowly but confidently higher positions on the ongoing ranking list. As the only one he managed to keep up with the three trucks of the De Rooy team.

However, the last third of the stage before a day off in Copiapó finally showed the power and robustness of TATRA trucks, as well as experience and determination of their crews. The first one hundred kilometers of more difficult terrain absolutely changed the ranking order. Thanks to his abilities and will to win as well as a great potential of his racing truck, Aleš Loprais won a second place on the continuous ranking list, while deep sand buried high ambitions of several dangerous competitors.

Martin Kolomý of the Czech Dakar Team driving a special COE truck is also doing very well. In the ongoing ranking, he “peeped into” the first top ten; he feels confident and is determined to improve his ranking. André de Azevedo’s Petrobras Team is competing with the TATRA 815 2T0R45 on the 14th place of the continuous ranking list. Another special TATRA truck of Tomáš Vrátný’s & the Bonver Team driving a former Loprais’s special truck is on the 25th place, which is not a bad result at all considering Tomáš Vrátný is a new racer of the Dakar Rally.

There is still a whole week of the 2012 edition of the Dakar Rally left, and all the stages up to Lima, Peru, will lead through difficult desert areas, which is exactly where TATRA trucks show their unbeatable performance.
